Pōhutukawa cut down in Ahipara
The pōhutukawa tree that was cut down is very special with great significance to te ao Māori and the environment. This tree also is on Māori land known as Moringai B which was wrongly taken and sold. A protest will start on this whēnua on Saturday 2 October where people will meet and discuss the next steps for this whēnua and grow māra (gardens) around the tree. A focus for the protest will also be the fact that the counsel approved the cutting down of the tree.
