An 11 year old boy lays in a critical condition after being hit by a truck on State Highway 10, in the Far North. Makere Mutu talks about how the speed on this stretch of road on Kareponia Hill, Awanui has long been an issue and contested by the whānau who live on the papakāinga located directly next to the road. Despite all efforts by whānau and hapū over the last few decades to have the speed limits in this area decreased, they have been unsuccessful. Following this recent incident, many including Makere are calling for immediate action for safer roads.
