Minister for Māori Crown Relations Hon Kelvin Davis was given a prestigious welcome by the hapū of Ngāti Kahu currently occupying the land at Maheatai, Taipa. Former MP Shane Jones also accompanied Minister Davis and shared much of the history reaffirming the cultural significance of this land to Ngāti Kahu. Unable to make any promises, Minister Davis made it clear that he would also like to see the land returned to Ngāti Kahu.
