Our Data is a Taonga

Associate Professor Māui Hudson from the University of Waikato, who is the a co-director for Veracity Lab, says: "For Māori and Indigenous people worldwide, data is a taonga. There is growing concern among Indigenous communities including Māori that use of their data by external parties could lead to misappropriation and cultural harm. The Digital Strategy for Aotearoa presents a chance to become a more equitable digital Aotearoa by maintaining the mana or sovereignty of the data here in Aotearoa.
