Give the Gift of a Safe Night

Dec. 15, 2021, 12:20 p.m.

Every night over 200 women in Aotearoa need a safe place to escape to. Joanna Bower talks to us about the Womens Refuge campaign for ordinary people to gift a safe night for only $20 to help the victims of family violence by booking a room for someone you’ll never meet, in a place you’ll hopefully never visit. Joanna asks whānau to support this kaupapa as the statistics show one out of three women will experience some form of family violence which pretty much means someone we know is very much likely to need somewhere to escape to for at least one night. The costs cover one night of safety at Women's Refuge for a woman and child costs for a safe clean bed, hot meals, security, safe transport, supportive staff and helpful advice.
