Housing Strategy Needed for Te Tai Tokareau

Jan. 27, 2022, 3:08 p.m.

The housing shortage has been an ongoing issue throughout Aotearoa for many decades now including Te Tai Tokerau. We connect with CEO of He Korowai Trust Ricky Houghton to get his update on the current housing status in the district area of Te Hiku as Ricky and He Korowai Trust have been leading the way in addressing the housing shortage in Kaitaia and surrounding areas. Ricky says that there has not been much change since last year, if anything it may have got worse and makes the point that we must work together to find a solution rather than simply rely on the Government. Further to that kōrero, Ricky talks about the fact that most district areas throughout Aotearoa already have plans in place and we of Te Tai Tokerau need to follow suit to get innovative and take action on developing  a customized strategy for Te Tai Tokerau.
