Waitangi Day 2022: A Virtual Experience

Feb. 1, 2022, 1:21 p.m.

Due to the current impact of Covid-19 on Aotearoa and especially Te Tai Tokerau the Government of Aotearoa made the decision not to attend the annual commemorations of Te Tīriti o Waitangi signed on 6 February 1840. However a pre-recording was captured of Jacinda Adern and other dignitaries at Waitangi for broadcasting on the day. Hūhana Lyndon, CEO Te Poari o Ngātiwai talks to us about the latest media release from Te Kahu o Taonui (Te Tai Tokerau Iwi Chairs Collective) and says Te Kahu o Taonui fully support the decision to move Waitangi commemorations to an online platform giving a virtual experience as opposed to a face to face close contact hui.
