Ngunguru Sandspit & Protection Society (NSaPS) are currently in the process of making a bid that could see the ancestral lands of maunga Whakairiora, Rangikōrero pā and Ngunguru Sandspit purchased and placed in Crown ownership for public reserve. Neta Kerepeti talks to us about her hapū Te Waiariki, Ngāti Kororā and Ngāti Takapari taking an opposing stance against the bid and seeking the return of the whenua to the hapū. Neta mentions the work that has been so far by the working group including the engagements with NSaPS, DoC and Try Arawhiti. When talking about the benefits of returning the whenua to the hapū, Neta makes a clear statement saying what is good for the hapū of Te Waiariki, Ngāti Kororā and Ngāti Takapari is good for everyone.
