He Whakamaharatanga: Tā Wira Gardiner

March 18, 2022, 3 p.m.

Remembering the late Sir Wira Gardiner former MP Shane Jones says he first met Sir Wira around the era of Koro Wetere and the passing of the great Māori leader Sir James Henare. Sir Wira had entered into the Department of Māori Affairs under the direction of Sir Tamati Muturangi Reedy before moving on to later positions within the Government sector. Jones mentions other Māori leaders that had served in the war and returned home to continue serving Aotearoa just as Sir Wira.
