Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro was sworn into her new position as Governor-General on 21 October 2021. As this year's commemorations for the signing of Te Tīriti o Waitangi were cancelled, the haukāinga did not get a chance to celebrate this achievement with her. Te Tai Tokerau call for her to return to Waitangi on the 13th of May (the day the last northern chief signed the Treaty) to celebrate the mana that has been bestowed upon her.
