In recent years many marae throughout Te Taitokerau have received new renovations and upgrades ensuring they are at a standard to host the different kaupapa and multitudes that attend these kaupapa. Buck Korewha a kaikōrero and kaumātua of Ngāti Kaharau & Ngāti Hau hapū shares kōrero on the latest upgrades to Te Piiti Marae in Omanaia, Hokianga which includes a new tomokanga (entranceway), waharoa (main entranceway) and a pou all carved by Kade Cowper of Uawa (Tolaga Bay) and Tome Korewha. Each of the new taonga is beautifully carved and has a special artistic feature that illuminates the carvings during the night with changing colours making for a spectacular view on arrival. Ngāti Kaharau & Ngāti Hau will be opening the marae on Easter Sunday 17 April 5pm-6pm for anyone wanting to take a closer look at the marae.
