The Taitokerau Rugby League competition simply known as the TRL has been running for over six years now and is currently the biggest league competition in Northland. Executive member of TRL Tārei Patuwairua gives us an update as the 2022 season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday 23 April. With the addition of the Whāngarei based team Portland Panthers there have also been changes to the competition circuit and pooling. Tārei makes the point of whānaungatanga and iwi affiliations being a major part of TRL with the wider whānau continuing to participate and grow Taitokerau Rugby League.
