Moko Tepania has proven himself to be a smart and influential operator in local government politics, despite this being his first term. John Carter is vacating the mayoral seat after three terms making the way clear for new leadership. Tepania was instrumental in bringing Māori Wards to the Far North District, Māori representation on Council committees and elevating te reo Māori in Council Chambers.
