Over 140 Māori Ward Candidates Across NZ

Te Maruata is a Māori committee which is within the Local Goverment NZ National Committee. Te Maruata promotes increased participation of Māori elected members within the local government and building relationships with iwi, hapū and roopu Māori.

This year over 140 Māori candidates are standing in the Māori Wards within the local government elections across NZ.

There are over 60 councils around NZ that are paying members of the LGNZ National Council.

In the FNDC local elections, there are 18 candidates standing in the Ngā Tai o Tokerau ward.
