Analyzing the census statistics showed that 130,000 whānau were living without power - it prompted co-founders Ezra Hirawani (Waikato Tainui) and Ben Armstrong (Ngati Hine) to create Nau Mai Rā power company to offer lower rate power to help those whānau out.
