Waka Hourua Festival

From October 15th - 23rd, Te Hau Kōmaru in partnership with Te Toki Voyaging Trust hosted over 2,000 participants from across Aotearoa at Maketu Marae, in Kāwhia Moana for the second annual National Waka Hourua Festival. Ngāwaiata Evans (Ngāti Kahu) says that this festivals allows their waka whānau to pay homage to their whānau who have passed on.

This past weekend Ngahiraka Mai Tawhiti made her way to Kawhia Moana as Te Aurere lays at the kāinga of Sir Hector Busby in Tokerau ahead its repair.
