This year, organisers of the Te Taitokerau Festival and Tōkihi ki Tua will combine ngāhau with competitive performances over two days on May 5-6 at Te Rangi Āniwaniwa's Puna Ora. Te Taitokerau Festival has been an independent event in previous years, running separately from the competition event Tōkihi ki Tua where judges are involved. Ngāhau performances will feature on Friday 5th of May, followed by the official regional Kapa Haka competition (Tōkihi ki Tua) the following day.
