Maranga Rise Up Aotearoa Relief Concert Raises $700,000

March 27, 2023, 11 a.m.

Chief Executive of Whakaata Māori Shane Taurima has praised event organisers of the Maranga Rise Up Aotearoa relief concert held at Hoani Waititi over the weekend. A crowd of up to 30,000 attended the show to enjoy the whānau atmosphere and the stellar line-up of acts, including Stan Walker, Troy Kingi, Kings, and Aotearoa's iconic singer Big Runga. Spectators were then treated to a surprise appearance from "Aquaman" Jason Momoa.

West Auckland Urban Māori authority, Whānau Waipareira, partnered with the Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency, and Whakaata Māori raised $700,000 for whānau affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. Event organisers expect the total figure to rise in the coming days.
