The decision for Te Kiingitanga to hold the mana of the taumata at Waitangi has come under fire. Peter-Lucas Jones says the decision to hand over the mana of the taumata happened without appropriate consultation and that all iwi across Te Tai Tokerau should be part of the decision-making process. He says while the decision might not necessarily be a bad one, it makes iwi kāinga manuhiri in their own rohe.
In other news, Tech Week starts on Monday, Jones says Māori have always been aware of the technology. He says examples of engineering and technology are evident in traditional art forms such as weaving. Jones encourages rangatahi to look into tech and engineering as a career.
