The Kaeo Pig Hunting Club held its 34th Annual competition over the weekend with hunters coming from all over Whangaroa and surrounding areas such as Kaikohe, Moerewa and Mangonui. Event organiser Ross Guy says it was a good opportunity to raise money for local clubs and services.
There were many categories where everyone had a good chance of picking up a prize even the spot prize of $1000 for entering the competition.
Children 12 years and under were free to enter the competition with their own categories in the possum, eel and snapper with top prizes for them being fishing rods, tackle and gear.
The biggest boar was caught by Jamie Desmond weighing in at 71.9kg while probably the youngest competitor in the competition at 3 years old, landed the biggest eel weighing in at around 7 kilos.
Other winners for heaviest snapper went to Chris Pohe 5.86kg and the heaviest kingi weighing 10.8kg to Toni Allen.
