The forestry training programme that is run by Ngāti Hine Forestry Trust that allows trainees to earn while they learn. But, Ngā Māhuri o Ngāti Hine is not just about planting and growing trees, it is also about growing their students as they work on tūpuna whenua.
The first student intake gained a 100% academic pass rate and 18 gaining full-time employment with the remaining 2 moving onto further studies. As well as gaining the necessary skills required to work in the forestry industry they are also are given the foundations to develop as people. A big part of the teachings includes Ngāti Hinetanga, who they are, where they are from and that this work comes with whakapapa and a legacy.
