Pasifika Community Thankful for Support

Aug. 20, 2020, 5 p.m.

The Pasifika Community came together to share their appreciation for the support they had received from community group Fale Pasifika during lockdown level 4. Fale Pasifika with the help of local people like Vaniva Lewis and her team of volunteers reached out to find Pacific Island families that may have been struggling with making ends meet during the Level 4 lockdown period.

The families that could make it to show their appreciation did so with song, prayer and traditional Pacific Island food. People of the Tongan, Samoan, Cook Island, Niuean and Fijian communities all came together.

“Back in Samoa we rely on the land and the sea for our daily living but here in New Zealand, it’s all about work, work, work, work. The support from Fale Pasifika, we don’t have that back home but here in New Zealand we are so blessed.” said Iose Filimalo

“To have Fale Pasifika to think about is you’ve got a family”

Fale Pasifika were also able to support our families through Pasifika Futures who are a Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency.
