Fast Community Action In Face of Possible Disaster

March 5, 2021, 3:14 p.m.

People from Kaitaia and surrounding areas evacuated to the high ground on Okahu Road today as warning sirens went off across the region. 

The community quickly rallied with staff and students from Kaitaia College alongside REAP providing traffic management support for the hundreds of vehicles in the area. Te Rūnanga o Te Rarawa were also looking to deploy staff and resources to ensure the wellbeing of the community.
