'Fight For Your Whakapapa' isn't just a tagline written on the sides of the Te Whānau o Waipareira Trust's vans calling others to action. With some founding members of the Trust originating from Te Taitokerau and many of the 70 strong team with whakapapa links to the region, it is their job description.
The Trust supported by the Whānau Ora Commissioning agency arrived in Kaitaia today, quickly setting up four vaccinations stations around town following a pōwhiri at Te Hiku Hauora. Te Taitokerau was the first hīkoi tautoko by the organisations, but they have made it clear, it is only the beginning and will make themselves available to other regions that want their support to increase vaccination rates in their community.
