The Māori Health Authority

May 25, 2022, 5:56 p.m.

With a little over a month till the Māori Health Authority finally becomes a reality Māori, Hauora leaders are excited about the future for our people.

Kaimahi working in the sector are not underestimating the huge challenge that is in front of them to try and turn around the poor health outcomes and inequalities that affect the Maori people but are excited about finally having a Tino Rangatiratanga approach on how they will deliver these services catered to the needs of our people.

Last week's budget promised specifically targeted funding that will allow for a change in the way things have been done for the last 20 years, but they know full well that without the buy-in and uptake of these services from our Whanau it will be difficult to turn around the poor statistics.

We spoke to 3 leaders within the Health Sector and they share their thoughts, dreams and aspirations regarding the new Maori Health Authority.
