Te Haurerewa Brown speaks about how life changed for her after she joined the Toi Māori Whakairo class at Whangārei Girls Highschool.
Prior to this class, her schooling experience wasn't enjoyable. "I use to get into heaps of trouble she says", she says. But after finding herself in this class she says she's found something she loves.
"It's been my best year of high school, it's exciting, cool, heaps of things to look forward to".
Brown was interviewed for Toi Houkura Art School in Gisborne and offered a position for the 2023 intake.
"I've always wanted to be a tāmoko artist and this has brought me on to the pathway I always wanted to do but didn't know how to get on".
