The pōwhiri for Te Mataini 2017 was held at Mclean Park in Napier. Te Matatini is the world's Olympics for kapa haka. These highlights from the pōwhiri include teams arriving for the opening of Te Matatini 2017 and an the expression of Te Mana Motu Hake o Kahungunu . The welcoming ceremony included a kaiwero specialist team, a massive welcoming crew and a paepae full of expert orators. Te Taitokerau was represented on the taumata by Raniera (Sonny) Tau.
