The need for Emergency Housing is a big issue in Aotearoa and even more so in the Far North where poverty is rampant. Keeping in line with its mission to 'Developing Tino Rangatiratanga' in the Far North, He Korowai Trust offers an alternative to its Whare Ora Housing Scheme. The difference between this initiative and the Whare Ora Scheme is that these homes are built within the maximum permittable sizes that do not require building compliance or council permits. They are also completely off the grid, meaning that they are supplied with solar power, califont for hot water, a septic tank for sanitation and a 5000L water bladder that is filled from rain water off the roof of the homes.
He Korowai Trust's new initiative is designed specifically for those families desperately needing emergency housing and moving them from dire situations, reconnecting families back to their whenua and into their own homes.
Moving families from state dependant to independence.
