Rongoā Māori Project

Rongoā Māori is a the practice of Māori medicine and using traditional methods to heal illnesses and ailments. Rongoā includes herbal remedies, using plants such as kawakawa, harakeke (flax), kōwhai and mānuka. Rongoā also includes physical therapies such as mirimiri and romiromi (massage and manipulation), and also all important for healing, was  a belief in the spiritual causes of illness.

Today rongoā Māori medicine is seeing a resurgence of interest. Whetumarama is local a practioner of rongoā Māori and she is using her knowledge of traditional Māori medine to educate those that do not know or understand what rongoā Māori is through the Rongoā Māori project.
