Building Young Pride Is SWEET AS

He Korowai Trust has officially opened it's new intitiative the SWEET-AS Trade Trainee Academy for 17 to 24-year-olds to learn painting, decorating and carpentry. The Academy has teamed up with Northtec to provide the necessary skills to help the young trainees achieve their goals succesfully. The SWEET-AS Academy will be built on 50 acres of Trust land in Kaitaia and will target unskilled/unemployed Māori youth into full time trades, training, employment and improved social conditions never thought possible resulting in an intergenerational quality of life & reduced state dependence for youth.

SWEET-AS is an acronym for Students Without Education, Employment or Training Achieving and Succeeding.

The Academy guarantees it's graduates full-time apprenticeships upon completion of the 2 year course where they will be building homes and emergency housing for whānau desparately in need of them.
