July 6, 2018, 9:56 p.m.

Tupu Ake is a great new supported employment initiative for the youth in Whangarei.

Kevin Ihaka from Forest Protection Sevices recognised the massive gaps interms of tai tamariki developing in this sector and becoming the supervisors and team leaders in the future.

Forest Protection Services together with Te Matarau and Northtec, developed a proposal for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment under the kaupapa  He Poutama Rangatahi, creating oppotunities for tai tamariki 15 - 24 years of age to gain qualifications whilst working fulltime within the industry. Fast tracking the tai tamariki to leaders within the forestry industry.
