Following the announcement of a $4.6 million dollar investment into his Kupe Waka Navigation Centre at Aurere, Tā Hekenukumai Busby shares his star compass in this story.
The star compass sits as the focail point of the whare wānanga (school of learning) with a number of buildings surrounding it. Aligned to the horizon, the compass allows for a 360 degree view to support the learning of navigating by the stars.
The funding boost will allow Tā Hekenukumai and his supporters to complete the whare wānanga and bring to fruition a lifetime's worth of work and passion.
