Junior Technician

We're looking for a junior techie with a keen interest or experience in film, video, and audio production. The ideal candidate will be a multi-talented, well-rounded person who can help in a number of tech related areas at Te Hiku Media.

You will assist the small team at Te Hiku Media with our many exciting productions:

  • Haukāinga - short format, online videos covering news and stories from Northland

  • Livestreams - we live stream at least 4 events a year in Te Tai Tokerau including Kapa Haka and Manu Kōrero

  • Kōrero Māori - teaching computers to transcribe te reo Māori

As this is a Junior role, you will have some qualifications and experiences, but you will also be a quick learner and will gain many new and valuable skills on the job.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Setting up and operating audio, video, and live streaming equipment in studio and at events

  • Production of video and audio promos, stories, and news items for broadcast and online mediums

  • Assisting staff with basic IT related requirements

Required skills and experience:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • The ability to work alone and as part of a team

  • Video and audio mastering using Adobe software

  • A thorough knowledge of operating systems, including Mac OS, Windows, and Linux

  • Good knowledge of networking, hardware and software

  • Relevant qualification

  • A fast learner to all new software & technologies.

  • A fast worker with excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask.

  • Positive attitude, great work ethic and ability to work longer hours when required.

  • The ability to explain problems and solutions clearly to non-technical users.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Film, video editing, and audio production experience. 

  • Relevant qualification

  • Kōrero i te reo Māori

  • Can do attitude

  • Drivers licence

This job is based in Kaitaia. Remuneration is $45-$60k/year depending on level of experience and qualifications. We will consider more experienced applicants (e.g. intermediate or senior) but these candidates will be required to take on significant responsibilities.
