Raranga Competition Information & Rules

Who may enter

  • Residents currently living in Te Hiku o Te Ika

Who may not enter

  • All persons or groups directly affiliated with Te Reo Irirangi o Te Hiku o Te Ika are not eligible for prizes. This includes current staff, volunteers, and contractors.

How to enter

  • Weave something that fits one of the judging categories below:

Best Tāmata

Best Hīpora

Best Art/Innovation

Best Kete Whakairo   

Best Kete (Other)       

Best Hat

  • There will be two age categories; Over 50 years of age and Under 50 years of age

  • Entry forms available from info@tehiku.co.nz

  • To confirm your entry send us a picture of your piece with a completed entry form to info@tehiku.co.nz 

  • You can enter as many times and in as many categories as you would like

  • All entries must be submitted by 5 pm on Monday May 18th 2020.

Judging Panel

  • Your creations will be judged by an expert judging panel

  • The judging panel is objective and are not able to participate in the competition.

  • The judging panel’s decision is final.

Announcing Winners

  • When it is deemed safe to, all creations will be collected (either by dropping off to the Te Hiku Media offices in Kaitaia or picked up by a member of the Te Hiku Media team)

  • An exhibition will be held at a venue yet to be determined and a prize-giving afternoon organised

Terms & Conditions

  • Any collection of raranga materials must occur within the COVID-19 Alert Level Guidelines - do not put yourself or others at risk to participate in the competition. 

  • These rules are subject to change without notice. If we do make any changes, we will publish those on our Facebook page and announced on Te Hiku FM 97.1

  • By entering this competition you consent to images of your creation being used for promotional material

  • Entries that win first or second prizes will become part of the Te Hiku Media art collection.
