Dion Hobson, a much loved Māori broadcaster from Te Hiku Media, musician, and prolific composer has passed away. Dion Hobson was an active iwi leader from Te Runanga o Ngāi Takoto, making significant contributions in the areas of social justice for rangatahi, whānau and marae.

Te Reo Irirangi o Te Hiku o Te Ika, Te Hiku Radio lament the loss of Dion who was also one of the inspirational pioneer announcers in the iwi radio industry.

Peter-Lucas Jones, General Manager of Te Hiku Media said, "Dion had a passion for helping the Māori language to thrive in iwi radio broadcasting, and looked at every avenue possible to promote te reo o te kāinga. His many musical compositions and recordings of iwi anthems celebrate our shared whakapapa of the iwi of Te Hiku o Te Ika. The kuia and kaumātua interview recordings Dion produced are treasured examples of his skilful use of whanaungatanga to plant Māori language revitalisation seeds in the hearts of all that he came into contact with."

Maria Tauora, Media Co-ordinator for Te Hiku Media said, "We think of the whānau and mokopuna of Dion at this time and remember their Pāpā with much aroha."

Dion had close tribal affiliations to Te Rarawa and Ngai Takoto and will lay in state at both Roma Marae, Ahipara, and Te Pa a Parore Marae in Awanui.
