Ngā wāhine o Ngāi Takoto

Oct. 18, 2014, 10:45 p.m.

This waiata was written by Aunty Hazel (Ehara Anaru Paora) of Mahimaru. The words are directly from Nana's Māori poetry book, which includes many oriori, pao and other waiata she composed over the years. This waiata honours different kuia that were active in the lives of the whānau of the marae around Rangaunu habour in the time that the men had gone with the rua tekau mā waru to the second world war. This particular poem has been given a tune by Shian Murphy of Te Whānau Moana and he too is the kaiwaiata, he's done a wonderful job with waiata. You will hear Dion Hobson providing harmony through out the waiata.
